Colin joined Orms in 2026, to develop and grow the practice’s living sector, following 17 years at Maccreanor Lavington Architects. He brings extensive experience in the design and delivery of residential projects across London and has led several award-winning large-scale housing projects, dealing with complex urban sites, strategic regeneration, and sensitive historic contexts. A major focus of his work has been estate regeneration, the provision of affordable housing, and alternate models of rental housing.
Colin is currently appointed as a residential expert member of the London Borough of Croydon Design Review Panel, and he has over a decade of experience teaching postgraduate architecture.
What does ultrapractical mean to you?
To me, ultrapractical is a balance of care and pragmatism; responding with creative exploration and rigorous thinking, to address complex challenges in inventive but straightforward ways.
It is listening carefully; to communities and clients; and providing thoughtful generosity.
It is looking closely at context; accepting that the world is imperfect, and reimagining what already exists.
It is transformative regeneration; creating an architecture of longevity deserving of care, repair and future adaption.
It is balancing commercial viability with social and environmental responsibility, across every living sector, tenure and typology.
I want to focus my efforts on providing housing that enables a more equitable and generous city; one that serves broader public needs and widens access to secure, thoughtfully designed homes in a constantly changing world.
